(AUGUST 11, 2019) Portland has many apartments. Landlords own the apartments. Now landlords pay a new fee.
The fee is $60 for each apartment. Landlords pay every year. The city gets the money. The city uses the money for a special office.
The office answers questions from renters, landlords, and government. The questions are about housing laws. The office also keeps information about apartments.
Landlords do not like the new fee. It increases rent, they say. Apartments are already expensive. Some renters pay $1,595 per month for an apartment with one bedroom.
