The number of homeless people in Portland is increasing

(AUGUST 2, 2019) Some people in Portland do not have homes. They are homeless. Sometimes they live in streets and parks.

Portland and Multnomah County work together. They count the number of homeless people. One group is increasing. They have been homeless for a long time.

Many homeless people are disabled. They have problems with their bodies or their minds.

So it is difficult to find work and pay for a home.

In 2019, the survey counts:

    • 2,037 people living on the streets
    • 1,459 people sleeping in emergency shelter
    • 519 people in temporary housing
