(MARCH 11, 2019) Marijuana is legal in Oregon. However, many people do not like it. They believe marijuana is a dangerous drug.

Paul Lewis is a doctor. He is also the health officer for Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. Doctor Lewis has news about alcohol and marijuana.

Alcohol kills more people than marijuana. In Oregon, alcohol is more dangerous than all other drugs together. In 2017, 879 people died from alcohol. Only 676 people died from all other drugs together (including marijuana).

"It's really unsafe drinking ... that's the problem," Doctor Lewis says. Some of the alcohol problem comes stress and despair of racism, discrimination, and inequality, he says.
