Midterm election results in Oregon

(NOVEMBER 7, 2018) Tuesday, November 6, 2018 was election day in the U.S. There were also elections in the state of Oregon. Participation in Oregon was 62.82%. That means that 2,763,079 people can vote in Oregon. 1,735,800 ballots were received.

Here are some of the unofficial election results according to Oregon Secretary of State and The New York Times:

Kate Brown is re-elected to be governor of Oregon. The governor is the leader of the state. The New York Times says that Oregon has more women in top leadership positions than any other state.

Democrats and Republicans are the two major political parties in the U.S. Brown is a Democrat. Democrats won most of the other races in Oregon, too. Voters in Oregon cities often prefer Democrats. Voters outside cities -- in rural, or countryside, parts of the state -- often vote Republican.

There were 17 state senate races. Democrats won 11. Republicans will probably win the other six.

There were 60 races for seats in the state House of Representatives. Republicans won 22. Democrats will probably win the other 38.

Oregon voted on several ballot measures, too. Most failed.

Measure 102 wanted to allow bonds to build affordable housing. Voters said "yes". This ballot measure did pass.

Measure 103 wanted to stop local governments from adding a tax to groceries. Voters said "no". This ballot measure did not pass.

Measure 104 wanted to change how the state approves some tax laws. Again, about 2/3 of voters said "no." This ballot measure did not pass.

Measure 105 wanted to repeal Oregon's sanctuary law. About 2/3 of voters said "no." This ballot measure did not pass.

Measure 106 wanted to stop state money for abortions. About 2/3 of voters said "no." This ballot measure did not pass.

Oregonians also chose five people for the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. Districts 1, 3, 4 and 5 chose Democrats: Bonamici, Blumenauer, DeFazio, and Schrader. District 2 chose Walden, a Republican.
