Can you make a paper bottle?
(NOVEMBER 1, 2018) Can you make a paper bottle? That is the question for a company called BillerudKorsnas.
The company is from Sweden. It has a lab in Portland. They make new products from paper and cardboard.
For example, they make packaging for computers. The packaging is from cardboard, not plastic. It is easier to recycle. It is better for the environment.
Not everything is easy to recycle. Paper cups have plastic inside. They go in the trash. The company wants to use something different inside the new paper bottles.
The company can use old newspapers and paper bags to make bottles for household products. However, it needs to use new paper for food bottles.
Can the company make a paper bottle?
"It's going very well," says Tor Lundqvist.
The project started in 2015. The company wants to finish in a few years.
