Mayor wants to clean up Portland

(OCTOBER 12, 2018) Ted Wheeler is the mayor of Portland. He leads the city. He says the city has a litter problem. Litter is trash on the streets.

The city is growing, says the mayor. That means more garbage. Last year, the city collected 2.6 million pounds of trash. He wants to fix the problem.

So the city made a change. Now it empties downtown trash cans six days a week. It will be seven days a week in the spring. There are also 100 new trash cans around the city. Some trash cans have pictures of doughnuts and bicycles.

The mayor wants Portland to be the cleanest city in the country.
