E-scooters come to Portland

(July 27, 2018) Electric scooters are in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C. Now they are in Portland, too. The city wants to test the scooters for four months. Will they work in Portland? The city hopes the scooters help people get around town.

Three companies have "e-scooters" ready. Riders use a credit card to rent a scooter. Riders first pay $1 and then 15 cents a minute.

Riders need to be 18 years old and have a driver's license. They need to wear a helmet and ride in bike lanes, not on sidewalks. Riders leave the scooters anywhere. The scooter companies collect the scooters and charge their batteries at night.
