The Students' Union is open to all students of the College and exists to provide independent support in a range of scenarios from taking forward students’ concerns to the College management to providing social events to help students settle in and enjoy their time at the College.
Events are run through a Facebook page and they have their own Student Union Web Page
The SU aims to provide a great welcome during Freshers’ week and help you get the absolute best from your experience at the College and from living in Plymouth.
Our aim is for a vibrant SU which offers the clubs, societies and social events that YOU want, but the SU team need to know what you want and the SU needs your involvement to make things happen! Please support the SU to support you – they will be delighted to talk to you about ideas you might have for new clubs or events for example. Their open door policy means they are available at any time - the Students’ Union Office is located in the newly refurbished area near the front of the Tavistock Place campus, backing onto Regent Street and you can contact them via studentsunion@pca.ac.uk.
The SU President is elected annually and heads up the SU Executive. This year your President is Harriet Moore who completed BA(Hons) Photography in 2020 and this will be her second year as President having been re-elected. As SU President, Harriet is also a member of the Board of Governors, representing all students at meetings of our governing body; she also sits on the Student Engagement and Experience Committee and the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
The SU Manager is Paige Nolan, who graduated in BA(Hons) Commercial Photography for Fashion, Advertising and Editorial, from the College in 2017. Paige also sits on the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee.
Elected by all students, the Executive are the senior leaders of the student body, responsible for embracing the views of students voiced at the Student Council or other formal or informal channels, taking them forward to the appropriate College management forums.
Our students will be encouraged to vote in two representatives from each programme to voice the views of the group at meetings of the Student Council, programme teams and termly Student Staff Liaison Meetings. As a representative body, the Student Council forms a part of the Students’ Union Constitution. To help students representatives participate more effectively, and make better contributions, they receive initial briefing on their roles in the College by the SU President.
Termly meetings are encouraged between the SU Executive and the College’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to help ensure student needs are understood and any general improvements or enhancements identified and planned as swiftly as possible. Additionally, and further also to the work of the student representatives (described above), students are invited to meetings of Academic Board, the Student Engagement and Experience Committee, and the Learning and Teaching Committee – we aim to maintain a true partnership between the College, SU and students aimed at delivering the best possible student experience.
