The California Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, has published two playbooks for addressing stress related to COVID-19. You can find them both in the additional references Google Drive Folder at the bottom of this page, or find them online at COVID19.ca.gov. These playbooks discuss the six stress-buster strategies shown in the graphic above.

California Parent & Youth Helpline (855) 427-2736

Being a parent is a critically important job, 24 hours a day. It's not always easy. Call the National Parent Helpline to get emotional support from a trained Advocate and become empowered and a stronger parent. The helpline is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Sunday to talk by phone or text to provide emotional support and referrals for parents and youth in English, Spanish and other languages.

  • This website has a great blog article with several good resources on self-care practices and strategies to cope with anxiety and stress. Click here to view the full article.

  • You can also learn how to get your daily DOSE, which stands for Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin and Endorphins, the four key happiness chemicals in the brain. This sounds really scientific (which it is) but this infographic helps break it down with good strategies on using these to maintain happiness during anxious times.

CommonSense Media, Resource for Families

CommonSense Media has gathered a collection of online resources for parents to use to help support students with great tools for learning and entertainment. This website also includes some good tools for helping kids understand news coverage.

Counselor Keri Blog

Counselor Keri offers a variety of great tools to support children in her ongoing blog at www.counselorkeri.com. Most of these tools are developed for school counselors, but many of her recent blog posts are great tools for parents in supporting their children. Take a look specifically at:

Positive Promotions Resources for Parents

Positive Promotions is a company that often works with schools on campaigns to promote health and wellness with students. They have developed several tip sheets that offer suggestions on supporting students in the home environment. Topics ranges from health and safety to reading strategies and staying active. Play at Home

Active Play is important, even at home! Get great ideas for "recess" activities to help your kids stay engaged and active at Playworks.org. Playworks is even broadcasting live #PlayAtHome Recess daily at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. Check it out on their Facebook page.
