Secret Codes

Long before computers were invented, people came up with tricks to make sure their private information stayed private. All the locks to unlock are found here.

Encryption is a way to hide a secret in plain sight. One very old encryption is called a shift cypher. The number of spaces the letters were shifted is called the "key."  If you know the key, then you can break the code.

Morse code was invented by Samuel Morse in the 1840's. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire between stations. Samuel created a code with dots and dashes to each letter to the English alphabet. These codes were used along with a Telegraph to send messages between people.
