Shaping the Surface
Out of this World is a concert that explores the wonder and mystery of space. This engaging concert takes upper elementary and middle school students on a journey through the cosmos, exploring the musical and scientific elements aligned to learning standards. This imaginative journey is out of this world!
-Atlanta Symphony Orchestra 2025
HERStory is an inspiring concert featuring music exclusively by female composers, honoring the women who shaped history. This concert includes roles for two female actresses who play the various historical figures: Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Jane Goodall, and Mae Jemison. Through dynamic performances and engaging storytelling, audiences will explore music and "herstory".

In partnership with Atlanta's historic Oakland Cemetery, this concert includes spooky favorites, including Danse Macabre and In the Hall of the Mountain King. Students join Tweet, an Atlantan mockingbird, as they "tour" the Oakland Cemetery and meet historic Georgia figures, while learning how composers tell stories through song.

This concert brings the forces shaping Earth’s landscape to life. Through dynamic orchestral performances—including Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition—audiences will journey through windstorms, flowing rivers, erupting volcanoes, and rumbling earthquakes. With interactive elements, a superhero storyteller, and captivating visuals, this concert is an unforgettable fusion of music, science, and imagination.
Family Concerts
A concert adaptation of the picture book The Day the Crayons Quit by Oliver Jeffers. Poor Duncan just wants to color. But when he opens his box of crayons, he finds only letters, all saying the same thing: His crayons have had enough! They quit! For this concert we partnered with a high school theatre group to perform the various crayon monologues.

A concert celebrating Mexican composers, that wove together heartfelt narratives through an ethnographic playwriting approach, honoring the memories of deceased loved ones. Latino families contributed letters to their departed relatives, and their words were transformed into scripted dramatic vignettes—a poignant celebration of love, loss, and the shared humanity that connects us all.

Experience the magic of live symphony and shadow puppetry in Symphony Safari, an enchanting journey through the animal kingdom. Created in partnership with Zoo Atlanta, this imaginative concert follows eight-year-old Geo as she embarks on an adventure through shadow-projected animals, inspired by real creatures from the zoo. They come to life through captivating visuals and music.

This magical family concert celebrates the spirit of Ireland through lively music, dance, and a heartwarming story. Young Nora embarks on an unforgettable journey with her Irish grandmother, traveling the Emerald Isle to discover landmarks and Irish traditions. Along the way, they encounter dancers dancing jigs, reels, and whimsical acrobatic fairies—brought to life by the poetry of W.B. Yeats. On this musical trip, Nora finds a deep connection to her roots, reminding us all of the power of heritage, family, and the stories that shape us.
High atop Bald Mountain, a coven of friendly witches is brewing up a cauldron of magical European folktales that inspired some of the most beautifully spooky orchestral masterpieces. As they stir their bubbling pot is brewing with stories that connect to the suspense of In the Hall of the Mountain King, the swirling magic of Night on Bald Mountain, and the bone-clinking Danse Macabre.
This heartwarming music for the very young chamber concert features a string cortet and brings The Velveteen Rabbit to life through storytelling. As the beloved toy rabbit embarks on a journey to become real, the orchestra’s melodies create a magical soundscape of wonder and transformation. Through play and audience engagement, this sensory-rich concert introduces little ones to the universal power of music, love and imagination.
Designed for the youngest concertgoers, this enchanting chamber performance brings the classic fable The Ant and the Grasshopper to life through playful music, movement, and storytelling. With interactive moments and charming melodies, this delightful concert introduces young audiences to the joys of rhythm, teamwork, and the power of preparation.
This delightful concert brings The Lion and the Mouse to life through play and music, exploring the contrast between high and low pitches played by a chamber group. As the tiny mouse and the mighty lion share their unexpected friendship, the instruments' melodies highlight their differences— high notes for the mouse and low tones for the lion. With interactive moments and engaging sounds, young audiences will discover how music is used to tell stories and brings characters to life.
This lively concert The Tortoise and the Hare is designed for the very young in mind, exploring the exciting contrast between slow and fast tempos. Young audiences will hear how tempo shapes a story. With playful orchestral sounds and interactive moments, this engaging performance invites little listeners to experience the thrill of musical storytelling.
