How do I help my child when they are having trouble with Schoology?

My child gets an error or a blank page when they click on a link in their course.

  1. Click the name of the page/link at the top in blue to access the site.

My child can't access something in their course.

Check each bulleted item below for a possible solution.

  • Make sure your child is logged into their own account and not viewing their account through your parent login. If you see the blue bar shown in the image below, your child will not be able to participate in their class because they are only viewing the course.

  • If there is a Google file that says you need to request access, email the teacher to let them know that the share settings need to be adjusted.

  • Your child's teacher may be using a feature called "completion rules" which requires students to complete tasks in a certain order. You will see the phrase "Must Complete" on a folder that has completion rules in use. (See example below) Check to make sure that your child has accessed/completed all of the previously required materials.

My child gets an "Access Denied" message when trying to access a Google file attached to an assignment.

There is a browser setting that needs to be set to allow access to the document. Follow the steps below.

  1. In the Chrome browser, at the top right, click the 3 dots and then Settings.

  2. At the bottom, click on Advanced.

  3. In the Privacy and Security section, click Site settings.

  4. Click Cookies and Site Data.

  5. De-select the option Block third-party cookies. This option should now change from blue to grey.

  6. Sign out of Schoology, then back in.

  7. Check the Course Materials. The content should be visible now.

If you are still having the issue and you have an AdBlocker extension installed, disable the extension, log out of Schoology and log back in.
