To work on your Study Island or IXL assignments, go to your Clever portal and log in!
Study Island and IXL are both programs designed to make taking the state-required assessments (the PSSAs) a little easier. They are also great tools to help you see your growth on skills that may be new, may be a review, or may be completely different than what you expected!
You may have struggled with Study Island or IXL in the past - but I am hoping that you find my expectations manageable.
Here's how it works:
In 7th grade, Study Island and IXL are done independently - that's right, you get to work on it whenever YOU want to! At home, in Flex, during Timberwolf Time, whatever works best for you! We WILL sometimes work on it in class, especially if I know a tricky topic is coming up, but for the most part, you are in control!
You will have different lessons that you need to complete for each assignment, usually between 2-3, and you will have roughly a week for each assignment (pro tip: don't procrastinate). Remember, you will get FRESH questions for every 10 that you complete.
For Study Island, you need ONE blue ribbon per topic to be done. So, if you try once and get a 3/10, then get an 8/10 on your second try, you're done!!
For IXL, you need a SMART Score of 80% OR have tried 30 questions to be done.
You'll be graded on Study Island based on your performance.
If you get a blue ribbon, you get a 5/5 on the topic.
If you don't get a blue ribbon but tried the topic at least 3 times, it's a 4/5.
If you don't get a blue ribbon but tried the topic twice, it's a 3/5.
If you don't get a blue ribbon and only tried it once, it's a 1/5.
And if you don't try it at all, it's a 0/5. . . ugh.
You'll be graded on IXL based on your performance, too.
If you get a SMART Score of 80%, you'll get a 10/10
If you get a SMART Score of 81% - 89%, you'll get an 11/10 (that's right - BONUS!)
If you get a SMART Score of 90% - 99%, you'll get a SMART Score of 12/10 (BONUS again!)
And if you get a SMART Score of 100% - well then, you get a 13/10 (Woo hoo!)
If you get LESS than an 80 SMART Score, but have done 30 questions, you'll get an 8/10
If you get LESS than an 80 SMART Score and did not do 30 questions, then your grade will match your score. For example, if you did 20 questions and had a 67 SMART Score, your grade would be a 6.7/10
If you don't try at all, it's a 0/10. . . ugh.
Extra help for tough lessons. . .
Every once in a while, there is a lesson that is extra tough, especially if it is a new concept. In that case, I will try to add some resources to Schoology to help you!
