Sec Music Department - Marimba Guinness World Record Attempt

Parklands College is excited to be part of the Marimba Jam Guinness World Record Attempt at GrandWest Arena on Saturday, 2 August 2025. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history and celebrate South African music with a mass marimba ensemble, live performances, and a celebration concert.

🗓️ Itinerary for the Day:

12:00 – Learners to arrive at Parklands College
12:15 SHARP – Departure for GrandWest Arena
13:00 – Registration & Fringe Activities
14:00–14:30 – Entry into the Grand Arena
14:30–15:30 – Mass Rehearsal of the Official Song
16:00–16:30 – Doors Open to Audience
16:30–17:00 – Official Welcome
17:00–17:30 – Guinness World Record Performance
17:30–17:50 – Gold Medal Ceremony
18:00–19:30 – Celebration Concert
20:15 – Approximate return to Parklands College

🎖️ Each marimba player will receive an official Guinness World Records Gold Medal. One representative per school will be called to the stage to accept on behalf of the group.

✨ Event Guidelines & Reminders ✨

👕 Dress Code:

School sports uniform with a white plain T-shirt
Preferably plain white or black takkies
Remember: School rules still apply, even at an outside event.

🍎 Food & Drinks:

There may not be time to buy food — please pack snacks and water.
Bring money just in case there is a lunch break.

🚶‍♀️ Movement & Safety:

You may not go anywhere without express permission from the chaperone teacher.
When walking around or going to the bathroom, always move in groups of at least 4 learners.
No one may leave the venue without the chaperone’s approval.

🚗 Pick-up Arrangements:

If your parent is collecting you from the venue, they must meet you at the designated point confirmed by the chaperone.
You may not leave with another learner unless your parent has emailed prior consent.

📱 Personal Belongings:

Please take care of your possessions — especially valuables like your phone and earphones.
