Reflection: Overall this project was a learning experience. It taught me about my time managing skills, I learned about new tools, and I learned about communication. Time managing my time in Rover while balancing soccer and homework was tough, but I got the hang of it. I found time before school, after school, and during Flex to work on it. I haven't mastered it yet but this project really helped me realize what my weeks are going to start looking like. Building the die helped me find new tools, for example, I had no idea that there was a tool called the Hole Saw. Now, having had to use the tool in creating one side of the die, I know and understand how to work it. The most important thing I learned from this was the importance of communication, not only with the team but with Ms. Makins and Mr. Cribbs as well. I thought threw and planned out how to complete this project by bouncing my ideas off other people including Maggie and some veterans.
The biggest mistake I made while building the die is creating all of the sides the same size. Each of the six sides all measured exactly 5 inches by 5 inches. This is incorrect because you have to take into consideration the width and length of the other pieces that are going to be attached to each other. This means that all sides aren't going to be 5 inches by 5 inches, instead they are going to be a little smaller. I didn't figure this out until it was too late. Chaz came up to me and pointed out the issue and explained to me what I did wrong. I would have never thought of that because I had no idea that a 5 by 5 die is the total measurements. What I learned from this is that when building things in Rover it might not be as straight forward as it seems. Now I know to look deeper and ask more questions, but the one thing I do know is that I won't make that same mistake again.
