A thorough knowledge of the competition guidelines is essential for a positive Rover Challenge Experience. Therefore it is important that each team member have at least a conceptual understanding of the different phases of competition.
Our course strategy and the course layout will also inform our design and approach to competition. For a second year in a row it is possible to skip some of the obstacles and all of the mission tasks are optional. The obstacles we choose to skip or attempt will have an impact on our rover design:
For example Obstacle #1 the undulating terrain presented a challenge for our 2018 rovers.
- Should/could we design a rover with suspension with the thinking it would make it easier for the rovers to get over the mounds?
- Should we choose to skip that obstacle?
- If we choose to attempt any of the mission tasks we have to manufacture our task equipment.
Having these options requires that we develop a course strategy prior to finalizing our rover designs.

See the spreadsheet below for the group assignments. As a group you will need to collaborate to create a proposed course strategy for one of our rovers. Your strategy must specifically address:
- obstacles attempted
- obstacles bypassed
- tasks attempted & equipment needed
- anticipated score
- fall back plan for if you are still on the course at the 6:00 minute mark
- Justification based on 2018 competition film analysis as to why your group believes we should adopt this strategy.
Each group is to produce a Google Presentation outlining your proposed strategy and post it to this page. Course Strategy Presentations are due by 8:00am on Wednesday, December 19th.
