Every morning, thousands of students arrive at Spanish River and are greeted with smiling faces filled with excitement for the day to come. Although coming to school may seem like a simple part of our daily routines, it takes immense effort to ensure safety and protection of teachers, administration, staff and students alike. This assurance of protection starts as soon as we step on campus thanks to the entrance point staff at the Bus Loop, the 8000 Building and the 2000 Building.
At each entrance point, a group of staff members, teachers and administrators help to usher in students. The entrance point staff make sure students scan their ID badge while also assisting students as they go through the metal detectors. While the metal detectors have been implemented at our school for almost a year now, students may still require help from staff when going through them. If a student accidentally sets off one of the detectors or if a student is having trouble carrying their items through the detector, the entrance point staff step in, allowing students to smoothly enter the building while remaining safe from potential threats or harmful objects.
Although safety is the main priority of the entrance point staff, they still make time to have fun and celebrate our school.
“The staff is there every morning in the 2000 Building with a smile on their face - I really appreciate their help,” said Senior Andrea Sabria.
“The 2K team is full of personality and we all work so well together to ensure students are able to enter safely and efficiently,” says Dean of Students and 2000 Building entrance point leader Danielle Ramirez. Alongside Ramirez, Katie Labossiere, Cory Adelstein, Lucy Staniewicz, Marie Potter, Jody Sorrels and Matt Bennet also assist students in the morning by working at the 2000 building entrance point.
“My team is absolutely amazing and I look forward to our morning conversations, coffee, and good laughs. I feel that creating a welcoming atmosphere when greeting the students is important, and a great way to begin the day,” says Assistant Principal and 8000 Building entrance point staff leader Jill DeMarzo. In the 8000 building, Kevin McEnroe, Jennifer Cullen and Angela Donnino work alongside DeMarzo every morning at the entrance point.
“One of my favorite parts of the day is working the bus loop entrance in the morning. It gives me the opportunity to start their day with a friendly smile and a positive word,” said Assistant Principal and Bus Loop entrance point leader Jarlyn Mathews. “It may seem like a small thing, but I believe those little moments of connection can really make a difference. Seeing familiar faces, sharing quick conversations, and simply saying 'good morning' helps build a sense of community and sets a welcoming tone for the day ahead,” says Mathews. Along with Mathews, at the bus loop, Kevin Turner, Julia Moreno and Donna Harold are responsible for helping students through the entrance point each morning.
While entering school may seem like an insignificant part of our morning repertoire, our days would not be the same without the dedicated staff members at each entrance point who show up everyday to help ensure the safety and security of the students who attend Spanish River along with the staff, administration and teachers who help to keep our school thriving.
