Many teen rom-coms fade over time, but 10 Things I Hate About You (1999) still connects with teens and adults thanks to its humor and heart. This movie was set in an ordinary American high school where two sisters, Kat and Bianca, had very different love lives. Bianca dreams of romance, while Kat wants nothing to do with dating. Eventually their love lives started to depend on each other, their father set a new rule; if Bianca wanted to date, Kat would have to date first. So while Bianca longed for freedom, trying every possible way to convince Kat to date someone, Kat was resisting and pushing everyone away - until mysterious Patrick showed up.
The big question though, is why should you watch this movie? Well there are many reasons. For one, the characters are really interesting, many people can relate to some. Kat is rebellious, and a feminist, while Bianca is girly, but also funny, and Patrick is just… well Patrick, good looking, funny, and even knows how to sing (not too well but that's beside the point).
So with sharp writing, memorable characters, and timeless high school drama, 10 Things I Hate About You isn’t just another rom-com — it’s one of the rare teen movies that still feels alive 25 years later.
