Each year a phenomenal production is put on to kick off the school year. The Theater Department returns this fall with a spooky family favorite 60’s TV show, ‘The Addams Family’. Here’s a look into some behind the scenes with members of the cast and crew.
Senior Julia Dybas first explains why exactly the crew decided upon "The Addams family” relating it back to Netflix’s popular show ‘Wednesday’.
“It was chosen because it was a show everyone wanted to do. With the popularity of Wednesday we knew the show would do well and be fun for everyone involved,” Dybas said.
Junior Joseph Alkon, who is playing Lucas and Gomez adds on.
“It was chosen by our director because the show is hilarious and fits our cast very well,” said Alkon.
The cast is all equally excited as theater is nothing new to any of them, but something they enjoy returning to every year. Senior Matin Narmisa is returning for his fifth role, playing Gomez and Lucas.
“I think what brings me back each time is the exciting experience of putting on a show with people who grow to be your family. Though it can be tough at times, it always pays off,” Narmisa said.
Dybas also held a very similar answer.
“What brings me back everytime is the family environment when we’re all there with each other it makes the moments ten times more special,”
Alongside the familial bond the cast forms throughout their production, they are also able to delve deeper into the characters they’re playing. They discovered vast differences or that they can actually relate to a character they never thought they would.
“I've learned that even the most different characters from you, might have more in common with you than you think.” Narmisa said.
“When you’re able to access the character’s struggles because you sympathize or relate to them it’s easier to act and take on their personality and traits,” Dybas said.
Not only are actors able to immerse themselves in these characters, but they also get to do a lot of the things they love about theater.
Senior Micaela Domine mentions her excitement about being the student director and the impact of this opportunity.
“This is my senior year and I am very excited to be a student directing Addams Family. It has been such a growing experience for me, and I am so happy to be a part of it,” Domine said.
Dybas, on the other hand, mentions how it allows her to develop vocal skills.
“I love learning all of the vocal aspects. It’s engaging and interesting to learn a separate part and hear it come together for a perfect harmony,” said Dybas.
The Addams Family’s first show is set to debut Thursday, October 26th, with performances following as well on the 27th, 28th, and 29th. Tickets for students & teachers are only $15! Come support our hardworking Theater Department and get in the Halloween spirit!
