Let's Connect!
From a long, blustery winter to a week that feels like we skipped straight to summer — what a turn! And just as the sunshine showed up, so did plenty of reasons to celebrate here in the PSD. This week shines a well-deserved spotlight on our incredible educators, along with a wonderful feature on our Superintendent in the Bucks County Herald. It’s been a feel-good, good-news kind of week — and we’re here for it.
Settle in and enjoy this week’s Patch-perfect edition! ☀️🏴☠️
Following is a handful of photo highlights from recent events and activities. THANK YOU to our PTA/PTOs, Lynsay Fitzgerald, our athletic teams posting on InstaGram, our parent photographers and friends, our building principals, and Christmas City who share these photos for the newsletter every week. It would not be possible without you. You are appreciated! (Click or tap on an image to stop the carousel. Use the arrows to go forward and back at your own pace.)
Your guide to timely information in the Palisades School District.
We were delighted that on April 14th, the Bucks County Herald reported on Superintendent Dr. Bridget O'Connell's long career and achievements in the Palisades School District.
You can read the article in its entirety online HERE (requires FREE registration to access) or you can download it in PDF format HERE.
From January 1st through March 31st, everyone who shopped at GIANT, MARTIN’S, and GIANT Heirloom Market stores and “rounded up” their bill to the closest dollar made a BIG difference and helped to support our school district’s meal programs.
This week, representatives from Giant in Plumsteadville presented our district with a check for $4,658.39!
The Palisades School District is proud to participate in the GIANT Food Company Feeding School Kids campaign!
THANK YOU to everyone who rounded up at Giant to fight hunger!
The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires each school district, every three years, to conduct a process to create a Comprehensive Plan. In Palisades, this plan becomes the structure for the development of goals and areas of focus for the Superintendent and the administration. Together, with staff, parents, community members, and other stakeholders, the Palisades School District completed the process in February, 2026.
We welcome you to review the following materials:
An Easy Reference Guide for the Comprehensive Plan 2026-2029 can be found online HERE.
You can download the Easy Reference Guide HERE. (PDF)
Here is a single-page infographic summarizing the key components of Comprehensive Plan 2026-2029. (PDF)

As many of you know, a local event as part of the America 250 year of celebration, is taking place on Saturday, May 16 at Tinicum Park (flyer attached). I sit on the planning committee and, in conjunction with many of our teachers, staff, and students, lots of Palisades-prepared components will be part of the day - from artwork, to historical videos, to a live band performance (at 1 PM). It should be a great day to celebrate the rich history of Upper Bucks and its influence on our nation's independence.
Note: While this event is taking place at Tinicum Park, it is in celebration of the entire Upper Bucks region, so everyone in Palisades is encouraged to attend!
Additionally, should you have the time and interest, here is a link to a signup genius, as there is a request for volunteers to help throughout the day of the event for small shifts: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094AABA623ABFECF8-63388357-upper#/
Find out what's happening in our schools! The Palisades School District is comprised of three elementary schools (Durham Nockamixon, Springfield, and Tinicum), Palisades Middle School, and Palisades High School.
Congratulations to Rachael Tubiello, who was nominated and selected as a winner of the Citadel Heart of Learning Award. Rachael was selected from 3,200 nominations this year. As a winner, she will receive a $1,000 award along with the glass heart award.
The Citadel Heart of Learning Awards are among Citadel Credit Union’s longest-standing initiatives. Founded 25 years ago, the program recognizes outstanding teachers across the Greater Philadelphia area who consistently go above and beyond for their students. Each year, thousands of nominations are submitted by students, parents, colleagues, and community members throughout Greater Philly.
The picture is from the presentation at the Panther Pride assembly at Springfield Elementary where she is a 1st grade teacher. Rachael's husband and mom were able to celebrate with her.
Congratulations!!
¡Hola! Students in grades 3 & 5 learned about Cascarones, a Mexican tradition where confetti-filled eggs are decorated and cracked over a child's head during times of celebration.
This year, our 5th graders showed some affection to their 3rd grade amigos as they prepared to take their very first PSSA exams. It was an EGG-stra fun day!
We wish them BUENA SUERTE, or GOOD LUCK, and know that they will all do their best!
Gracias to Señora Kielkucki for this wonderful, heartfelt experience.
The Tinicum Tiger Readers and Tinicum Book Pirates roared their way to the finish line at this year’s Reading Olympics competition, earning both a red and a blue ribbon! We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork, and spirit as they showcased their reading knowledge. Their hard work and dedication throughout the year truly paid off. Way to go, Tigers!
At recent School Board meetings, we were proud to recognize Mrs. Doerr and Mrs. McLaughlin, as well as Mr. Shay, who was honored at the March meeting for his retirement as a custodian.
Mrs. Doerr, Mrs. McLaughlin, and Mr. Shay have each made a lasting impact through their dedication, care, and support of students, staff, and families. Their contributions have helped shape the positive and welcoming environment we value so deeply at Tinicum.
We are incredibly grateful for all they have given to our school community. Their legacy will continue to be felt for years to come. Congratulations to each of them, and thank you for all you have done! You will be missed!
Thank you to Amber Schlosser for the photo and the write-up!

EMILY BLAKE (SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER, DURHAM NOCKAMIXON ELEMENTARY)
Judy Steinmetz has nominated Emily Blake for this recognition! Here is what they had to say about the impact she's made: "Over the past couple of years we have had several learning support teachers leave. Emily is the youngest one we have had and the students love her. She has a very calm way of teaching and I have seen first hand the leaps and bounds our students have made since her arrival."
DAYNA MCNICHOL (ELEMENTARY ART TEACHER, CO-CHAIR ART AND ENGINEERING & DESIGN DEPARTMENT)
Alison Dorward has nominated Dayna McNichol for this recognition! Here is what they had to say about the impact she's made: "Dayna is an incredible art teacher who works tirelessly to create beautiful works of art that our students are proud to display. Dayna has recently collaborated with our high school to create a Meet the Monster event in which elementary students created Monster drawings, and high school students created 3D interpretations of the drawings. High school students also used the monsters as inspiration to write stories and poems. Dayna is always developing new and creative projects to foster creativity and a love for art."
MAGGIE CREIGHTON (1ST GRADE TEACHER, DURHAM NOCKAMIXON ELEMENTARY)
Marlena Musselman Fox has nominated Maggie Creighton for this recognition! Here is what they had to say about the impact she's made: "Mrs. Creighton is everything you could want in an elementary school teacher! She is warm and kind, organized and thorough, professional and approachable. She is very intentional about social-emotional learning and regulation, which has been so important for our first grader. Anytime we have a conversation, she has specific examples of our daughter's behavior and accomplishments to share. She cheers for all the wins your kids have, and she's there to support them when needed. I would never believe that she's only at the beginning of her teaching career, knowing how confidently and competently she runs her classroom. Our family, and our first grader, are so lucky to have her this year!!"
AMANDA DALTON (KINDERGARTEN TEACHER, DURHAM NOCKAMIXON ELEM)
Lauri Brunton has nominated Amanda Dalton for this recognition! Here is what they had to say about the impact she's made: "This teacher is kind, patient, and clear every single day with her students. She works hard to differentiate instruction with explicit activities that are also playful, fun, and hands on. She has a very positive attitude and that comes across in her teaching. She really gets to know her students across many domains- academic, emotional, behavioral. She is a great Kindergarten teacher, setting up students to be successful in school!"
You are all AMAZING and we are grateful for all that you do for our students and our community every day!

UBCTS Graphic Communications and Palisades junior Alison Koefoed created a piece for Temple University’s CTE Newsletter, which was representing ‘what does CTE month mean to us as students.’
She volunteered to spearhead the project and organized the entire Graphic Communications PM class to collaborate on the “hands-on” concept. The class involved the entire school by gathering tools from each program for the photo shoot. The students then formed a circle with the tools in their hands to represent each tech area. Her instructor, Matthew McClung, shared that Alison grew into a leader during the project. This professionalism and teamwork highlight the talent and dedication of UBCTS students.
We are proud of your work Alison!
Dr. Patrick Bogard, Class of 2002, visited Palisades High School with his wife and son recently. Pat was a member of the Cybersonics team and was excited to see the amazing upgrades to the science wing and programs to support STEM opportunities. Pat and his family live in California.
We love our alumni and are happy to see them when they stop by for a visit!

Pennsylvania’s State Performance Plan requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 include collecting and reporting data on the involvement of families in special education programs. Specifically, states must report annually to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the public on State Performance Plan Indicator 8, which is the “percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.”
Like many other states, Pennsylvania is collecting this data through a large-scale survey. Pennsylvania reports results of the survey to OSEP in its State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report. This report is posted on the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) websites. Reporting on local educational agency (LEA) performance is done through the Special Education Data Reports on the PennData website.
A representative sample of parents from the LEAs listed will receive a postcard with instructions for completing the anonymous and confidential survey. Parents may direct questions about the survey to the Special Education Consult Line at 800-879-2301.
Did you know that the Palisades School District offers personal assistance with completing the Medical Assistance application in COMPASS? Medical Assistance (Medicaid) is a public health insurance program that covers children with disabilities as well as families who experience low income. Navigating medical care for your family can be challenging, and we are here to help you with the application process and can answer questions you may have.
This program can provide access to necessary services such as doctor visits, dental care, eye exams/glasses and more. Did you know there are organizations that offer discounted admissions to ACCESS Card holders? Summer is coming and this would be a good time to get the application started.
Families who are interested in applying and looking for assistance with the process can email Jessica Kressler, Secretary to the Director of Student Services for the Palisades School District, at jkressler@palisadessd.org or call 610-847-5131 Ext 4026 for more information.
