Let's Connect!
Batter up! Spring sports are in full swing (pun intended...we couldn’t resist!) as our Pirates hit the fields, tracks, and diamonds for an exciting season of softball, baseball, track & field, Unified track & field, and flag football.
There’s no better time to show your Pirate pride — cheer on our teams, connect with our community, and support the Palisades Community Foundation's event at BW Social on Saturday night as we work together to rebuild our beloved pirate ship.
Enjoy this week’s Patch-perfect edition!
Following is a handful of photo highlights from recent events and activities. THANK YOU to our PTA/PTOs, Eva Palmisano, Dawn Smigo, our parent photographers and friends, our building principals, and Christmas City who share these photos for the newsletter every week. It would not be possible without you. You are appreciated! (Click or tap on an image to stop the carousel. Use the arrows to go forward and back at your own pace.)
Your guide to timely information in the Palisades School District.
As many of you know, a local event as part of the America 250 year of celebration, is taking place on Saturday, May 16 at Tinicum Park (flyer attached). I sit on the planning committee and, in conjunction with many of our teachers, staff, and students, lots of Palisades-prepared components will be part of the day - from artwork, to historical videos, to a live band performance (at 1 PM). It should be a great day to celebrate the rich history of Upper Bucks and its influence on our nation's independence.
Note: While this event is taking place at Tinicum Park, it is in celebration of the entire Upper Bucks region, so everyone in Palisades is encouraged to attend!
Additionally, should you have the time and interest, here is a link to a signup genius, as there is a request for volunteers to help throughout the day of the event for small shifts: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C094AABA623ABFECF8-63388357-upper#/
If you missed the in-person registration event, it’s not too late—registration can still be completed online at: www.palisd.org/our_district/new_student_registration
*Once registration is completed, please contact Kelly Dobrydnia at kdobrydnia@palisadessd.org to schedule a time to pick up your incoming kindergarten student’s t-shirt and backpack.
Register online HERE.
Find out what's happening in our schools! The Palisades School District is comprised of three elementary schools (Durham Nockamixon, Springfield, and Tinicum), Palisades Middle School, and Palisades High School.
JUDY DOERR (SECRETARY, TINICUM ELEMENTARY)
Alison Dorward said, “Judy has worked at Tinicum for over 25 years. She currently serves as the building secretary, and is loved by all. Judy's impact reaches far beyond the office walls. She is always willing to lend a helping hand to teachers, and you will often find her cutting, organizing, and packing their materials. Judy has also supported our students by serving as a reading mentor. Not not only does Judy go above and beyond, she will recruit her family to volunteer for various school events. Judy takes great pride in her work and our school. We are grateful for her hard work and dedication."
ADRIANA NOGAMI (OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST)
"Mrs. Nagomi has made a great impact on many of my kids through the years. She has been an outstanding OT helping my kids with a variety of skills. She has also been a feeding therapist helping my kids learn how to eat safely and to use utensils properly. She had supported my kids to learn how to organize themselves to be able to learn to the best of their abilities. Through that they have been able to learn and be successful in school and outside of school with the tools she’s given them. We are so grateful her patience, kindness, and support she has showed to my kids as well as my entire family. She is dedicated to all kids and we are forever, grateful that these skills will be carried through my children’s entire life."
DANI THOMAS (SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER)
Lou deFonteny nominated Mrs. Thomas, a special education teacher, in what Palisades School District fondly calls the "Journey's Program." In addition to teaching core academic courses, Mrs. Thomas teaches essential skills that are taught and then practiced in a student-run cafe known as the "Pirates Pier." Mrs. Thomas has also been a key contributor in the development of the District's Student Worker Program for students who excel in their courses and roles at the Pirate's Pier and are ready for a step towards gainful employment. In her spare time, Dani Thomas coaches the Unified Sports teams (Fitness, Bocce Ball and Track and Field)."
MAUREEN VASSALLO (SPEECH/LANGUAGE TEACHER)
"Mrs. Vassallo has had an enormous impact on multiple levels with my children. She has supported them for many years with speech, voice therapy, communication and self advocacy. Her impact will carry through my kids' lives and has helped support them to be the best version of themselves. We are so grateful for her and all she has done for them and our whole family."
You are all AMAZING and we are grateful for all that you do for our students and our community every day!

All submissions will be entered into our spring prize drawing and may be featured on the College of Education (COE) social media.
Congratulations to Robert Cox, Custodial Crew Chief at Tinicum Elementary, on receiving the Caring Community Award! Robert’s warm and kind spirit makes a lasting impact on everyone he meets. He has a special way of making every student feel seen, valued, and welcomed, and his engaging, fun personality brightens each day.
This recognition is so well deserved — thank you, Mr. Bob, for helping make Tinicum such a caring and connected community.

We don’t want the inability to afford a dress to prevent you from enjoying this special night. If you need any assistance in finding the perfect Prom dress, please see Mrs. Mazza in guidance or Mrs. Page in the nurse's office.
Information in this section will be particularly helpful for those who have students in our schools.
Pennsylvania’s State Performance Plan requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 include collecting and reporting data on the involvement of families in special education programs. Specifically, states must report annually to the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) and the public on State Performance Plan Indicator 8, which is the “percent of parents with a child receiving special education services who report that schools facilitated parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities.”
Like many other states, Pennsylvania is collecting this data through a large-scale survey. Pennsylvania reports results of the survey to OSEP in its State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report. This report is posted on the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) websites. Reporting on local educational agency (LEA) performance is done through the Special Education Data Reports on the PennData website.
A representative sample of parents from the LEAs listed will receive a postcard with instructions for completing the anonymous and confidential survey. Parents may direct questions about the survey to the Special Education Consult Line at 800-879-2301.
Did you know that the Palisades School District offers personal assistance with completing the Medical Assistance application in COMPASS? Medical Assistance (Medicaid) is a public health insurance program that covers children with disabilities as well as families who experience low income. Navigating medical care for your family can be challenging, and we are here to help you with the application process and can answer questions you may have.
This program can provide access to necessary services such as doctor visits, dental care, eye exams/glasses and more. Did you know there are organizations that offer discounted admissions to ACCESS Card holders? Summer is coming and this would be a good time to get the application started.
Families who are interested in applying and looking for assistance with the process can email Jessica Kressler, Secretary to the Director of Student Services for the Palisades School District, at jkressler@palisadessd.org or call 610-847-5131 Ext 4026 for more information.

Springfield Township is looking for volunteers for its annual Roadside Cleanup Day on April 11th, 2026 at 11:30 AM. There seems to be a lot of debris along this stretch of Route 212 this spring and your contribution of your time would help beautify an area in our district.

They will meet at the Springfield Elementary School and the effort usually takes a couple of hours.
If you have any questions, please contact Mike Clime, Springfield Township EAC Vice Chair at mikeclime@gmail.com.
