Welcome to 6th Grade

Birthdays

Throughout the school year, we always have several students/parents that want to celebrate a birthday at school. This can be done as long as we are contacted at least one day before. Please check with us for allergies, times to bring items, etc. Some days may be better than others to bring items and some items may not need to be brought depending on the students in classroom this year. We will follow most recent COVID-19 recommendations for this type of celebration. Please contact teacher before planning on sending any shared items for approval.

Volunteering

In the past, we have always welcomed parent volunteers throughout the year, especially during parties. However, with recent COVID-19 recommendations we are limiting visitors in the building. Please make sure to check with principal before planning on visiting the school.

Grades/Homework/Class Assignments

Paintsville Independent schools has been able to provide students one-to-one Chromebooks. We will be using these throughout the year utilizing programs such as Google Classroom, Digital Textbooks, and other online resources. Your child will have time in class to work on online programs, however, at time students will need to be able to work on a computer to finish assignments. If your child does not have access to internet at home, please let us know as soon as possible so that accommodations can be made throughout the year.

Your child will also have their own access to Infinite Campus this school year. This is the program that allows your child to see grades throughout the nine weeks. Your child will be given more responsibility this year for keeping up with missing and incomplete assignments to help prepare them for middle school. You can also have your own access to Infinite Campus. If you would like to have access to Infinite Campus, please contact the school counselor ashley.adams@paintsville.kyschools.us and she will be able to set it up for you.

If your child misses school this year, they are responsible for getting their missing assignments from the teacher or other students. If your child knows he/she is going to miss school, they can often get the assignments from the teacher ahead of time as well. If your child misses an extended period of time, they are still responsible for their work missed. If you would like the work sent down to the office while your child is absent, please call the office before 11:00 am. This will allow us to get the work together to be picked up.
