Dr. J. Richard Willis is the father of three: an eighth-grader who’s teaching him the often-confusing rules of lacrosse (who is now a goalie), a seventh-grade girl who believes every aspect of life could use more glitter (especially when it comes to her singing Wicked 24/7), and a third-grader who can often be found debating the greatness of Messi vs Ronaldo with anyone willing to listen, all while thinking slowing down is optional. He enjoys good food, helping his kids learn math (when they’ll let him), and catching some sleep whenever his family gives him the chance.
To fuel his passion for family and food, Richard is the Vice President for Engineering, Research, & Technology at the National Asphalt Pavement Association. In this role, he supports the asphalt industry with issues surrounding recycled materials in asphalt mixtures, pavement-vehicle interaction, pavement design, and environmental product declarations. Much like a solid asphalt mix, Richard strives to maintain a balance in all areas of his life. He’s also deeply passionate about education and works to ensure that people remember the message, even if they forget the man.
