Samiul Sekh

Parents: Alek Sekh and Shila Bibi

Financial Condition: Samiul, from Bamnabad Adhar Chandra High School near Berhampur, was referred to us by ex-teacher of his school Mainuddind Ahmed (through Nabanita). They are a family of four (parents, elder brother). They used to own some land beside a river, but a few years back the land got covered by the river's sand, and is not suitable for cultivation any more. Their old house also got destroyed, and four years back they built a new house with concrete roofing with 2 rooms, bathroom and kitchen. But some parts of the house are yet incomplete. Father has taken loans for the purpose. Their primary earnings are from a small grocery shop in the village (INR 5000 / month). The family currently also get Yuvashree grant from WB govt (INR 1500 / month) which will come to an end after six months. Covid-19 did not affect their village severely, and thus also not their livelihood. The contacting volunteer noted that his father seemed a very honest person. Samiul's elder brother is a 1st year B.A English Hons. student in Krishnanath College in Berhampur, and gets Vivekananda scholarship (INR 1000 / month). He has started taking tuitions in science subjects and English.
