This Guided Web Inquiry is designed to provide preservice teachers with the materials necessary to assist them in learning the process of designing a guided discovery lesson. Links to relevant documents and Web pages that describe the process and give examples of exemplary Web Inquiry lessons have been provided.
This Guided Web Inquiry is designed to provide preservice teachers with the materials necessary to assist them in learning the process of designing a guided discovery lesson. The purpose of this assignment is fourfold. It was designed to acquaint emerging teachers with a pedagogical approach known as a Guided Web Inquiry, constructed around what was formerly known as a WebQuest. Second it will provide them with experience in developing a guided discovery lesson. Third, this quest provides a scaffolded experience designing a technology-enhanced lesson plan. Fourth it is structured to allow them to experience a Web Inquiry from the standpoint of the learner. In exploring this approach and designing their own lesson, teachers will be empowered to recognize the manner in which guided discovery lessons can motivate and inspire learners across a wide range of ages and grades.

This Web Inquiry is designed for preservice or inservice teachers who are beginning to start to design their own lessons. Foundational knowledge in educational psychology and pedagogical approaches provides a context for this lesson. The Process
The Process
The process of implementing this Guided Web Inquiry can be rather straight forward. One way to begin might be to introduce the concept of an inquiry lesson and walk the teachers through the resources and process. Another might be to simply show them this Guided Web Inquiry and let them work through it while you scaffold the process.

After the lessons are designed I encourage you to allow your teachers to present their Guided Web Inquiry lesson to each other and discuss the content and pedagogy they selected. Posting their lessons on their personal websites is strongly encouraged.

By the end of this project, students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of how to design and publish a Web Inquiry lesson, by creating and publishing a pedagogically powerful and well written inquiry lesson using Web-based resources that could be used at the Ece/Elem grade level of their choice (typically 2nd grade and above).
