Frequently Asked Questions

Updated regularly as questions come in!

Is attendance required?

Yes, all band and orchestra students are expected to attend. Concerts are an integral component of the music curriculum, and serve as the "final exam" for the semester. Except in extreme circumstances, concerts cannot be made up. Absent students detract from the overall performance in a significant way, and have a negative impact on the rest of the ensemble. If your child is unable to fulfill an after-school music obligation due to a lack of transportation, contact Mr. Leslie via email ( or remind immediately.

What should my child wear?

When our groups perform a concert, it is important that we all look as good as we sound. If families have any trouble acquiring the necessary concert clothing, please contact me as soon as possible! Please use the following as a guide when selecting concert attire: Long black pants (please, no sweats or track pants), a long black skirt, or a black dress (must cover the knee when seated). A black, long sleeved, "nice" top (no t-shirts or sweatshirts). A collared, button-up shirt preferred. Black dress shoes with black socks preferred.

How long will the concert last?

Concerts will not last longer than one hour.

Can family/friends attend?

Yes! Concerts are an opportunity to celebrate your child's hard work in music. Students are welcome to invite up to 4 family members/friends each. Students will request up to 4 tickets (to be distributed in class prior to the concert)
