Welcome to the Bellingen Riverwatch Data Portal

This portal displays our interpreted water quality data for the Bellinger and Kalang catchments.

We acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, learn and live, and their connection to land, sea and culture. We pay our respect to all Elders - past, present, and emerging - through thoughtful and collaborative approaches to our work.

What do we display in this portal?

Interpretation of each test result

We display Bellingen Riverwatch data interpreted to show each the data for each parameter scored as 'Very Good', 'Good', or 'Fair' (these are all within the ANZECC guidelines), and Poor or Very Poor (these are both outside of the ANZECC Guidelines).

Percentages within guidelines

We also display the percentage of Bellingen Riverwatch data that is within the ANZECC guidelines for:

What our 4-year data is telling us

Our partners have then worked together to give our river stakeholders and the community a written summary of what our 4-year data is telling us.

How do we interpret our data?

We use system a system as defined by Adrian Dickson and Nakia Belmer from Science Division, Department of Planning, Industry & Environment, which is derived from the Water Quality Guidelines (ANZG2018, whose values are the same as the ANZECC 2000) default guidelines values for moderately disturbed ecosystems.

Adrian and Nakia have calculated % values outside the guideline value (GV) to create scoring bands of 'Very Good', 'Good', 'Fair', 'Poor' and 'Very Poor'. Read more about our system for interpretation here.

How often do we update this portal?

Our Latest Data page is updated monthly, and we release other data reports when we are able (funding dependent).

Where can I find Bellingen Riverwatch raw (uninterpreted) data?

Bellingen Rivewatch raw data is available to view or download (.xls) here, to view or export at the Waterwatch Portal (see instructions here) and the SEED Data Portal (updated six-monthly).
