Email Commander Fernandez
Edgar Fernandez was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. He attended Reseda High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree from California State University at Northridge. He began his law enforcement career with the City of San Fernando Police Department. While at San Fernando PD, Edgar worked as a patrol officer, Field Training Officer, Area Lead Officer, and Special Investigations Unit Officer. He was a member of their Special Response Team and a board member of the San Fernando Police Officers’ Association.
Edgar was later assigned to the Oxnard Police Department in 2011. He worked as a patrol officer and a Field Training Officer. He was also a member of the Defensive Tactics Unit and the Crisis Negotiations Team. He was selected to join the Investigative Services Bureau, where he was a member of the Violent Crimes Unit, investigating robberies, violent assaults, and gang crimes. In 2015, he was recognized as the Oxnard Police Department Officer of the Year while working in the Violent Crimes Unit. He would later work in the Major Crimes Unit, investigating homicides and critical incidents.
In 2017, Edgar was promoted to Sergeant and worked in patrol as a Sergeant. In 2020, he was selected to be the Major Crimes Sergeant. Edgar also served as an executive board member for the Oxnard Peace Officers’ Association from 2016 through 2022.
In 2023, Edgar was promoted to Commander and assigned as a patrol Watch Commander. He was subsequently selected to be the Patrol Support Services Commander, which he held until January 2025, when he was selected to be the Commander of the Professional Standards Division.
