"Excavating the Lost Medieval village of Althorp, the Spencer Family Seat "
Roger Lee Michel, Jr. (Trinity, Oxon.), the founder and executive director of the Oxford Institute for Digital Archaeology, will address the society on his work with Earl Spencer on excavating the lost medieval village of Althorp. The institute is best known for its reconstruction in 2016 at 2/3 scale of the triumphal arch of Palmyra, destroyed in 2015 by ISIL. This reconstruction was displayed in Trafalgar Square and elsewhere. The institute has funded a variety of projects in Britain and Europe long after classical antiquity. Mr. Michel, by education both an Anglo-Saxonist and lawyer, promises that, in discussing this recent and continuing project, he will explain when the name of the village is pronounced 'Althorp' and when it is pronounced 'Altrip'.
The Oxford and Cambridge Society of New England is pleased to make this event available to all members of the Alumni Networks of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. The event is free for members of OxCamNE, $10 for non-members.
