Previously, the house served as headquarters for General George Washington during the Siege of Boston, July 1775 - April 1776. In addition to its rich history, the site offers unique opportunities to explore 19th century literature and arts.
Here you can learn about the famous poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his impact on the national identity of the United States, George Washington's stay in the house during the Siege of Boston in 1775-1776, and many other stories from over 200 years of American History.
The gardens and grounds are free and open to the public every day, year-round, from dawn to dusk, so before or after the tour, stop and smell the flowers as you enjoy the beautiful formal gardens!
