7:10 pm: Talk by Mr. Simon Winchester, OBE (St Catherine's, Oxford) on his new book:
“Land: How the Hunger for Ownership Shaped the Modern World”
The Society is pleased to announce Simon Winchester, OBE (St. Catherine’s, Oxon.), will present a talk on his new book, “Land: How the Hunger for Ownership Shaped the Modern World.” He is the acclaimed author of many books, including The Professor and the Madman, The Men Who United the States, Atlantic, The Man Who Loved China, A Crack in the Edge of the World, and Krakatoa, all of which were New York Times bestsellers. In 2006, Mr. Winchester was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) ‘for services to journalism and literature’ in the New Year Honours list for 2006. He was elected an Honorary Fellow of St. Catherine’s College, Oxford in October 2019.
