Please join us for this talk by Dame Athene Donald, Master of Churchill College, Cambridge and Professor of Experimental Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory in the University of Cambridge, and alumna of Girton College.
The well-known names of science, from the Renaissance on, are all men. But there are some intriguing stories of women who entered the fray in various ways, as commentators, 'helpmeets' or educators whose stories rarely get told. The more one digs, the more such stories emerge. Starting with Margaret Cavendish, Duchess of Newcastle, as she braved the doors of London's new Royal Society in 1667, Dame Athene will explore the contributions of some of these fascinating women over the centuries.
