Course Description: The sky and celestial motions. History of astronomy from ancient civilizations through Newton. Survey of the solar system. S.
Course Delivery- Hybrid: The Sky and Solar System, will be taught in-person, using Prezi and PowerPoint lectures, videos, animation tools, in class questions, and demonstrations. Lectures will be recorded for students who are unable to attend. Short quizzes will be given at the beginning of many class
Course Description: The stars, their properties, classification, and evolution. Galaxies, quasars, and cosmology. Note: ASTR 110 is not a prerequisite for ASTR 111. (Group II, Quantitative)
Course Delivery: Fully Remote: While this course will be online-only, it will be as similar as I can make it to when I teach it in-person. I will use Blackboard Collaborate to teach the course synchronously at the same times that it would be offered in-person if I were on campus. A recording of each class session will be made for students who are unable to attend. Often in class I show Google Slides presentations that are full of images, figures, animations, and videos. I can do that as well in Collaborate. For videos I will post a clickable URL in the chat box so that students who run into issues with videos played in Collaborate can watch them directly on their own devices. On many days there will be Breakout Groups in which students will work together in a virtual room on in-class exercises. I will work to pair students who were not in the live class session to work together on them after the class.
