Course Description: An introductory course emphasizing four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also introducing students to the cultures of the Arabic-speaking world. Both formal (Modern Standard Arabic) and spoken Arabic will be taught simultaneously. This integrated approach is essential for using the language and understanding Arabic culture. Course Description: This is a third semester Arabic course to be taught in the target language. It builds upon the linguistic skills and the cultural knowledge developed in ARAB 110 and 111, stressing improvement in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition, students will be introduced to various topics related to Arab culture, including ancient civilizations in the Arab world, Arabic countries and peoples, Arabic literature, art, food and religion. The overall aim is to help students continue to improve their basic Arabic language skills and to shed light on contemporary Arabic society and the richness of Arabic heritage. Prequisite: ARAB 111 or permission of instructor.
