The Owasso Choir Program has a long-standing tradition of excellence and one you can take great pride in.
The Owasso High School Choir is an award-winning program. They compete each year at OSSAA State Contest and have earned multiple Sweepstakes Trophies and Accent Awards. They have performed extensively throughout the United States, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Branson, Washington D.C. and two performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City and two cruise ships.
They have a large amount students who have performed with NCDA District, OCDA All State Jazz, OkMEA Mixed and Women's All State and Regional SWACDA and National ACDA honor choirs. Owasso High School students have received millions of dollars in music scholarships and gone on to pursue music education and music performance degrees in college. They are currently teaching and performing around the world.
The middle school choirs have consistently earned superior ratings at OSSAA contest gaining them multiple Outstanding Achievement Awards each year. They also compete in the Spring every year and have won multiple 1st place trophies at contests comprised of both middle and high school choirs. Many of the students in the 6th-8th grade choirs are chosen for Children's All State, NCDA District, OCDA All State and even Regional SWACDA and National ACDA honor choirs. They have earned numerous individual superior ratings as well at OSSAA solo/ensemble contest.
The Owasso Choirs have had multiple groups chosen to perform as Honor Choirs at the OkMEA State Music Convention at the middle and high school levels. They have even had a director, Mindy Bettridge, nominated and chosen to receive the Exemplary Music Educator Award for the state of Oklahoma.
The choirs are highly active performing in the great community of Owasso. They sing at surrounding businesses, retirement homes, and community events such as the Gathering on Main, the Harvest Festival and numerous school sporting events. The choirs also perform at events in Tulsa such as Tulsa Drillers games, Thunder games, Harlem Globetrotters performances and Tulsa Oiler games.
What do we want you to know?
We want you to be able to read music independently, be responsive and engaged in rehearsals, perform music at an exemplary level and be proficient in theory fundamentals.
How will we know if you know it?
You will use a variety of resources such as classroom rehearsal, Google Classroom assignments, supplemental materials and peer instruction to evaluate student learning.
What will we do if you haven't learned it?
You will be connected with a co teacher and/or peer to help develop the necessary skills or music disciplines to reach proficiency.
What will we do if you already know it?
You will be able to assist students and directors in the classroom as well as advance your own skills by taking advantage of audition opportunities and/or supplemental resources provided in Google Classroom.
