This is the information Room 8 students knew before we started our unit about Matariki.
This is the new knowledge Room 8 had after researching this topic, and completing our guided reading unit.
Waehere!
Use Scratch to make an animation to teach someone about Matariki. Find our example here. Zac will be running a workshop on Scratch if you are interested.
Enter the Matariki Short Story Competition to represent our school, and win up to $200!
See Mr Moore for more information and a workshop later in the session.
We proudly presented our marine animal themed box at the Duffy Book Assembly today.
We are going to recycle the artworks, by designing a wall display for our classroom.
Today's task is research-based. We are going to design a fact file about the animal of our choice.
To achieve success:
we have included three-four general facts about our animal. This could include ideas about the animals' diet, their habitat, their appearance or their life cycle.
we have explained WHERE our animal is found, in New Zealand and around our world.
we have explained HOW the animals have been affected by human impact on the environment.
We have explained HOW we, as kaitiaki, can do our part to protect these animals in the wild.
In Room 8, we have been learning about the Hauraki Gulf, a very special part of our backyard. We have been exploring our value of kaitiakitanga; reflecting on what special places we have in our backyard, and what we should do as kaitiaki to protect and preserve them.

Design an organiser in either Google Slides or Google Drawings, about marine reserves in our world, that covers our 5 W's of the topic:
WHAT is a marine reserve?
WHERE are some marine reserves in our backyard, or beyond?
WHO sets up the marine reserves?
WHY do we need marine reserves?
WHEN were the first marine reserves set up?
Include colour, illustrations and maps for effect!
Tell the story of one of the sea creatures you explored during the assignment. Include details about the animal's habitat, diet and appearance. You could tell a story - maybe your creature escapes from a shark, or is caught in a fishing net?
Include colour, illustrations and maps for effect!

Design a learning Kahoot or Google Form, with factual questions about the sea animals we studied during our assignment.
Test the understanding of your classmates, checking your answers carefully to ensure that your answer is 100% accurate.
Include pictures, video clips and a variety of question types for effect!
Activity Two - see Mr Moore for the text he will provide you about kelp.
