CIRS & EAI

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS)

CIRS is a multi-symptom, multi-system illness caused by exposure to biotoxins, or neurotoxins produced from a biological source, commonly mycotoxins (mold-toxins). CIRS is a type of EAI.

Check out the biotoxin pathway via Surviving Mold website by Dr. Richie Shoemaker, a recognized leader in the field of biotoxin illness.

Please note: For treatment, we highly recommend you read the TOXIC book by Dr. Neil Nathan, and follow your functional/integrative doctor's instructions that are unique to your mold illness. Most importantly, taking binders and glutathione are essential components to treatment, however experimenting with the right doses for you are essential to improvement. Take the "less is more" approach.

Environmentally Acquired Illness (EAI)

From the International Society for Environmentally Acquired Illness website:

Environmentally acquired illness (EAI) refers to serious chronic health problems caused by exposure to mold and other biotoxins, Lyme and other persistent infections, toxic chemicals such as pesticides, heavy metals, air pollution, dust, and other irritants found in the environment. Unhealthy indoor air and persistent infections are the two primary causes of EAIs.

EAIs include:

  • Chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) (also called mold illness or biotoxin illness),
  • Persistent Lyme disease and other infections caused by Bartonella, Babesia, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), mycoplasma and others,
  • Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and
  • Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS), among many others.

Many people who have been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (or CFS, also called myalgic encephalomyelitis or ME) or with fibromyalgia are suffering from exposure to mold, biotoxins, and/or other environmental hazards.
