A series of practical, hands-on training sessions exploring how Google Workspace and AI tools can be used effectively by both teaching and support staff.

The sessions will focus on practical applications that can save time, improve organisation, support teaching and learning, and streamline everyday tasks. Each session will include demonstrations, examples and opportunities to explore the tools yourself.

You do not need to attend every session. Each session is designed to work independently, so staff are welcome to attend whichever sessions are most relevant to their role or interests.

Session 1 – Setting Up and Using Google Classroom with Google Products
Monday 14 September
An introduction to setting up and managing Google Classroom effectively. We will explore how Classroom works alongside Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms and Drive, including creating and distributing resources, organising work, collecting submissions and providing feedback.

Session 2 – Staff and Student Use of NotebookLM
Monday 28 September
Discover how NotebookLM can turn your own documents and resources into an AI-powered research and learning assistant. We will look at practical uses for staff, as well as ways students can use NotebookLM to explore resources, summarise information, revise topics and develop their understanding.

Session 3 – Gemini
Monday 12 October
A practical introduction to Google Gemini and how it can support everyday work. We will explore effective prompting and demonstrate ways Gemini can help with planning, creating resources, summarising information, generating ideas, adapting content and completing administrative tasks.

Session 4 – Gems
Monday 2 November
Explore how to create customised Gems within Gemini. Gems can be configured to perform specific tasks or follow particular instructions, allowing you to create reusable AI assistants for activities such as lesson planning, resource creation, communication, administration and other repetitive tasks.

Session 5 – Gemini Canvas
Monday 16 November
Explore Gemini Canvas as a collaborative space for developing and refining content with AI. We will look at how Canvas can be used to create and improve documents, resources, plans and other materials, with a particular focus on reducing the time spent drafting and editing.

Session 6 – AI as a Marking Assistant
Monday 30 November
Explore practical ways AI can support assessment and marking without replacing professional judgement. We will look at using AI to help analyse student responses, identify common misconceptions, generate feedback, support moderation and reduce some of the workload associated with marking and assessment.
These sessions are suitable for both teaching and support staff, and no previous experience with AI tools is required. Whether you attend one session or the full programme, the aim is for you to leave each session with practical ideas and tools that you can begin using straight away.
