Many teachers are walking out of their jobs protesting how they need better pay so they can pay for things they need. About 2,000 to 3,00 Oakland Unified School District teachers are walking out of their jobs.
How does this affect me though? Well as you have probably noticed it affects all kids in Oakland Unified School District because you have to stay home, which is pretty boring for a lot of kids. So if you are bored you can scroll to the bottom of the article and find some fun learning games you can do at home.
According to many sites teachers are among one of the least paid jobs in Alameda county. Many people have big ideas about what to do. But one of the problems is Oakland Unified School District doesn't have an endless amount of money, (I mean what were you expecting it to have an endless amount of money?) Oakland unified school district has around 761,880,000 and they already spend around 16,000 for each student per year. (the source for the amount of money Oakland Unified School District has come from an organization called, "USnews")
This section is an opinion piece. I think that this situation is very complicated because like it says above Oakland Unified School District doesn't have endless amounts of money. But on the other hand, teachers need more money. They get very little money, so little that it is below the average. Being a teacher is a very hard job. You have to teach other people about things maybe even stuff you don't know anything about. Or you find the subject very upsetting. But the point is teachers work very hard. Just like other workers they should be paid enough to be able to buy what they want.
(Remember this is an opinion so you may have a completely different opinion on what they should have done.)
