About Us
Who are We?
We are Family Literacy Teachers in Oakland Unified. We teach parents about reading, math, science and other cool stuff their kids are learning in the classroom as well as adult education. Both of us are former classroom teachers and love to bring that into our parent classrooms.
Beth Detwiler
Beth is the Family Literacy teacher at Coliseum College Prep Academy. Beth has two kids and spent her childhood hiding out in corners of her house reading to avoid doing chores. She is known to still do that.

Kathy Locke
Kathy is the Family Literacy teacher at Fruitvale, mom of 4 kids (ages almost-2 to 11), and lover of books and families learning! The Lockes read together in the car with audiobooks, and at home after dinner almost every night!
