Oakland Language Immersion Advancement in Science (OLAS) is a CDE grant-funded professional development project for five Dual Language schools in the Oakland Unified School District over two years, including summer institutes. The project supports school leaders and Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs) in the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in Dual Language contexts with the specific goals of providing equitable access to NGSS for students living in poverty, English language learners, students of color, and girls. In addition, the project intends to connect Dual Language educators within OUSD and the greater Bay Area.

Over the course of the project, each ILT analyzes data collected at their school to develop a Problem of Practice (POP) focused on NGSS, language development, and equity. The ILT then constructs an Implementation Plan to guide them as they address the POP at their school. Teams are supported through the development of content and pedagogy, leadership coaching, and time and space to collaborate.
