Keeping Active

In St Joseph's we understand the importance of promoting a healthy, active lifestyle to our pupils. In addition to delivering the Scottish Governments commitment of 2 hours of physical education per week, throughout the year staff provide a variety of after school clubs, masterclasses and pupil choice sessions enabling pupils to participate in physical activity. Active schools also have a strong partnership with our school providing opportunities for pupils from across the school to participate in lunch time clubs, after school clubs and specialist sport tuition within and out with school hours.

National Fitness Day

To celebrate National Fitness Day St Joseph's pupils and staff donned their best fitness gear and participated in a range of lessons and activities promoting the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle.

It was great learning about the martial art of Nunchaku from Alex who is a member of the World Nunchaku Association. Each class had the opportunity to practise and perform a short sequence of moves using the nunchucks.

Some classes braved the cold weather to test their map reading skills. Creating and following simple directions using cones and symbols to trace the correct route. This task involved good team work and interpretation skills.

Daily Mile

Many classes enjoyed a brisk walk, jog or run of the school playground completing 16 circuits to ensure they had traveled the required mile.
