23/10/2018: Please see the important information below from McColl's buses regarding the roadworks on Bonhill Rd.

Service 8040 - Important Information

We have been notified by West Dunbartonshire of a road closure on Bonhill Road with a diversion on Towend Road under Dumbarton Central Bridge.

Unfortunately, this diversion is un-suitable for our Double Decker due to the low bridge at Dumbarton Central.

Therefore, the bus from Monday 22nd will start along Greenhead Road and up through Dumbarton East to the main Dumbarton Round-a-bout (at Church Street) and turn back on itself for the first pickup point to be outside McDonald's before the smaller round-about into St. James Retail Park.

The bus will then operate normal route and current pickup times will be 5 minutes earlier than scheduled.

For any pupils whom board the bus on Bonhill Road please now go to the bus stop outside McDonald's.

The works are planned until Monday 5th November and we will update if this changes.

Please note, the earlier 5 minutes pickup has been suggested on some feedback from parents due to some congestion near Milton just before the October break. It is likely these new times will remain in place even when the road works have been completed.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

1/5/2018: We are delighted to share with you the recently published report from Education Scotland and HMIe on how well West Dunbartonshire Council is improving learning, raising attainment and closing the poverty related attainment gap for all of our young people.

You will note that WDC have been evaluated as making very good progress. HMIe are confident with our evidence and self-evaluation.

The many strengths of our work have been praised and we are in no doubt that this is as a direct result of the excellent work we continue to do on a daily basis.

The report also includes aspects for development. HMIe agreed with the aspects that our service had identified as our next steps.

We are rightly very proud of this achievement and continue to be confident that we are making a real difference to the children, young people and families we serve.

As you may be aware, 2018 is Year of Young People. It is an opportunity to celebrate the amazing young personalities, talents, and achievers that make up Scotland. It’s all about inspiring our nation through its young people’s ideas, attitudes and ambitions.

This year long programme of events, activities and ideas will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they’re made of. Year of Young People 2018 is something everyone can support (young or young-at-heart) and be immensely proud of.

Activities for the Year of Young People 2018 will be based around six key themes, which were developed by young people and will guide everything we do across the year. These themes are;

- Participation

- Education

- Health and Well-being

- Equality and Discrimination

- Enterprise and Regeneration

- Culture

The Youth Alliance Young Leaders have developed a consultation around these six key themes to be live until the 31st January 2018.

We would really appreciate your support to get as many young people (8-25 year olds) as possible to complete the consultation.

This consultation can be completed on line here.

27/9/2017: Please see the info bleow regaridng an appeal for parents/carers to participate in a survey regarding Early LEarning and Childcare (ELC) in West Dunbartonshire.

By 2020, all three and four year olds, and all eligible two-year-olds, will be offered 1140 hours of free ELC which is the equivalent of up to 30 hours a week. This will be a significant change for children, their parents and carers in West Dunbartonshire and we want to ensure our provision across the BGE meets the needs of our communities.

It is essential that we seek the views of as many stakeholders as possible in a way that best meets the needs of all of our families and children.

To make your views known, please complete the survey at
