Dr. Suman Dabbu earned his Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, University College of Engineering, Osmania University. He began his career as a knowledge scientist at Scitech Patent Arts Pvt Ltd before joining the Department of Biomedical Engineering as an Assistant Professor in 2007. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2020, Professor in 2024. Dr. Dabbu has 17 years of teaching and 10 years of research experience. He received his PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Osmania University, specializing in biomedical signal processing.
His research interests include the analysis of physiological signals related to various diseases, development of indigenous medical instruments, and the study of movement disorders. Dr. Dabbu has published over 10 papers in reputed journals and presented 10 papers at various national and international conferences. He has received research grants to the tune of 50.Lakhs from funding agencies such as SERB-DST, DST-PURSE, TSCOST, UGC, and TEQIP-Govt of India. He was also awarded the SERB-TARE fellowship from the Government of India at IICT Hyderabad for a period of three years from 2023-26.
Dr. Dabbu has won three best paper awards at international conferences, including ICNB-2 in 2011, IEEE-INDICON in 2015, and ICSDP in 2022. He serves as the Director of the Biomedical Instrumentation Centre, which undertakes consultancy assignments for various hospitals in Telangana state. He played a key role in developing calibration protocols for medical equipment according to the standards set by the Medical Device Directives, Government of India.
He served as the Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering from February 2013 to 2015 and from February 2021 to 2023, 2025-till date. He is currently the Chairperson of the Board of Studies in Biomedical Engineering at Osmania University. Dr. Dabbu has held several administrative positions at the university, including Additional Controller of Examinations from 2019 to 2021 and Joint Director of ITE&C since 2023.
Additionally, Dr. Dabbu is an Associate NCC Officer at 2(T) AIR SQN (TECH), NCC. He attended the pre-commissioning course at Officers Training Academy, Kamptee, and Air Force Station, Tambaram, and was commissioned as a Flying Officer in November 2018
