A balanced approach to education helps students reach important goals and benchmarks. It also supports a variety of learning styles. For this, direct instruction in conjunction with opportunities for hands-on exploration within partnerships and groups enables students to make authentic discoveries and personal connections.
When I'm not teaching...
I'm cooking, baking, and watching Barefoot Contessa and Pioneer Woman on the Food Network. Or I'm spending time with the two loves of my life--my honey who is also a teacher, and our sweet little rescue dog, Punky. I'm very domestic and prefer to be home, although I love going to Palm Springs to soak up the heat, eat ice cream at Lappert's, and take in the mid-century architecture. Other passions include drinking great coffee with heavy cream, texting with my mom and aunt, and wearing Ugg boots when the weather cools down. It's the little things in life...
I've been teaching since 2008, and have had the pleasure of working as a reading intervention teacher, special education teacher, and in Kindergarten and 1st grade as a general education teacher. I attended elementary school in Oceanside (Go San Luis Rey sea lions!) so it feels extremely fulfilling to come full circle as an educator in the district where I literally began my own education. I've worked primarily at Mission, but have spent time at Stuart Mesa Elementary and Garrison Elementary. For the past three summers, I've worked for the Extended School Year program, offering 4 weeks of instruction for special learners. But it's my home at Mission I love most, and there's no place I'd rather be.
