Teaching & learning in third grade

My name is Luz Meza-Miller and I love being a teacher! I have been teaching at Mission Elementary since 1997. I came to Mission as a student teacher in the Spring of 1997. For ten years I taught second grade and have been a third grade teacher since 2007. I have had so much fun teaching and learning with my students. In our class, we learn how to work with others all the while becoming better readers, writers, and mathematicians. We work on being problems solvers and living the Keys of Excellence, too.

I was born and raised in San Diego, CA. I am the daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and I am the first in my family to go to college. My desire to learn and the support of my parents helped me graduate from the University of San Diego with a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts. I continued at USD to get my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction.

I am a wife and mother, too. My husband, Gene, and I have two kids, Mateo and Isabella. As a family, we love to do many things together-going to the beach, cooking & eating, spending time with family & friends, and traveling. We have been fortunate to travel to some wonderful places.
