As we start our new school year in a virtual setting , I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy while at home. As a parent, you have always been an important part of your child's education and I want to thank you for all you doing to continue your child's education.
This website is designed to help our parents with their child's virtual learning.
This website contains meaningful learning opportunities for your child in addition to part of their daily school routine. With the wide range of our students' abilities you may find some of these items to be below, at, or above your student's abilities. My goal is allow your child to access a relatively predictable schedule and be able to do some or all of these things independently.

Drawing a picture first is important!
Spelling should be phonetic, using the sounds the child hears. They may need help stretching sounds out to hear them, but they do not need words spelled for them. It's essential that children apply their knowledge of the alphabet to spell for themselves at this stage. As long as they can read it themselves, their spelling is fine.
That being said, there are words they should spell correctly, and those are the Rainbow Words. Depending on where your child is on their way to mastery, they may only spell red words correctly, or the whole list.
After writing, have your child read their writing to someone, even the family pet.

Teach them how to use a book properly:
How do we hold a book (Parts of a book: Front, Back, Spine).
Not to bend book against the spine.
Not to tear or write on the pages.

While reading the book:
Emphasize tracking each word with your finger while you read together.
Have your child find words they recognize.
Discuss capitol letters and punctuation.
Talk about how the pictures help us understand the text.
After reading the story to your child, discuss the content.
It is OK to read the same book multiple times.

They like playing tag. As we play tag we remind our students to "touch softly". The concept of one person being "it" is not in their game of tag but rather it is more about being chased or chasing one another.
We like playing with beanbags (you can substitute a soft ball or stuffed animal). We practice throwing it up and catching . We also toss it to each other. Be creative and challenge your child to simple beanbag hand-eye coordination and gross-motor control activities.
