Tuesday, September 18, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we finished reading chapter 5 of Space Case. We also wrote an academic summary on chapter 5. If you weren't able to finish, come to tutorial tomorrow at lunch to finish up.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: We did finished our activity about positive and negative behaviors. Now we are able to get together with our committees, create group norms, and hopefully eliminate some of the negative collaborative behaviors! Thanks for your reflections today.

Homework: None.


Monday, September 17, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we learned about how to write a proper academic summary and read part of chapter 5 of Space Case. Don't forget, September 26th is the last day to turn in late work from this grading period.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: We did an activity about positive and negative behaviors. We will reflect on this tomorrow.

Homework: None.


Friday, September 14, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: It was a busy day today! We had a binder check, planner quiz, read chapter 4 of Space Case, filled out part of our character chart, and checked our grades on Aeries. For the binder check: remember, you can get full credit on that if you show me that you've corrected/got the materials that were either not there or done incorrectly.

Homework: Have a fun, safe, fantastic weekend!

  • Peer Leadership: We met with our committees and continued setting goals and formulating plans. Some of us went and participated in classrooms with peer buddies.

  • 6th ELA: Today we had two class periods to work on our final draft of the one-pager. If you did not finish this in class, it is now homework. Here is a link of my example (do not make yours too similar to mine)

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Finish final draft of one-pager.

  • Peer Leadership: We met with our committees and continued setting goals and formulating plans. Some of us went and participated in classrooms with peer buddies.

Wednesday, September 12, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we had two class periods to work on our rough draft of the one-pager. If you did not finish this in class, it is now homework. If you need to find quotes, this can be done tomorrow since you don't have a book at home. We will be working on our final draft tomorrow!   • 6th ELA: Today we finished up reading partner discussions. Those are due today! We also read an article about the allowance gap between boys and girls and did some annotating. Be sure you finish the annotations tonight if you didn't do so in class.

  • Peer Leadership: We continued presenting about ourselves.

Friday, September 7, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: We had our planner quiz today. We learned more about text connections and added that resource in our ELA notebooks. We also met with our reading partners for discussions. Please make sure you're writing in your planner correctly EVERY day so you are earning 100% on these quizzes.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: We began presenting about ourselves.

Thursday, September 6, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: We completed our thinking frame from chapter one. If you didn't turn this in, be sure to finish it up and turn it into the inbox tomorrow. We also read chapter two of Space Case

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Chapter 1 thinking frame due tomorrow if you didn't turn it in already!

  • Peer Leadership: We worked on our "All About Me" projects. Use the handout with project guidelines to help you. Remember, this DOES NOT need to be completed at home. This is an in-class project. It will be due Monday.

Wednesday, September 5, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter one of Space Case. We also started our thinking frame for chapter one.

In addition, you also found out your reading level. Remember, GE stands for "Grade Equivalency" (ex: 6.0 is a 6th grade reading level). ZPD is the "Zone of Proximal Development". This is the range you should be ideally be reading within. Check the "AR Book Level" at www.ARbookfind.com

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • 6th ELA: Today we took our STAR reading test. This will determine our reading level (lexile, grade level, etc.). We also completed some pre-reading activities for our class novel, Space Case.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Check grade on Aeries.

  • Peer Leadership: We started our "All About Me" projects. Use the handout with project guidelines to help you. Remember, this DOES NOT need to be completed at home. This is an in-class project.

  • 6th ELA: Today we met with our book partners and discussed the novels we are reading independently.

  • Peer Leadership: We created 6 word memoirs; a 6-word phrase that was inspiring or meaningful to us. We put these on notecards and made them look beautiful!

Thursday, August 30, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we were introduced to the Schaffer paragraph and we practiced writing one. I know this may seem hard right now, but practice makes perfect! ***PLEASE CHECK YOUR GRADES! Some of you are missing assignments and it is significantly affecting your grade.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: We completed the post-brainstorm activity. We also played listen up! Talk about a serious battle of which class can work best as a team. ***PLEASE CHECK YOUR GRADES! So many of you are turning in assignments without names :(

  • 6th ELA: Today we read and annotated a non-fiction text about video games and their effect on children. We will do a writing assignment with that tomorrow.

  • 6th ELA: Today we put some valuable resources in our ELA notebooks. We also visited the library. I hope you all have a book to enjoy! If you want to make sure your book has an AR test, visit this website: http://www.arbookfind.com/

  • Peer Leadership: We completed the 2018-2019 Peer Leadership survey. We discussed and brainstormed ideas for PL. So excited by what you all came up with. Thanks for your participation and enthusiasm :)

Monday, August 27, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we set up our ELA spiral notebooks. We also learned about three different types of text. If you weren't able to get the notes, come see my spiral notebook. We also went over the syllabus/expectations quiz. If you would like to earn full points, write down the correct answer in a complete sentence for each question you got wrong.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Bring independent reading book starting this Wednesday!

  • Peer Leadership: We completed the 2018-2019 Peer Leadership survey. We will discuss and brainstorm tomorrow.

Friday, August 24, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we had our book raffle! If you didn't get a book you want, we will be going to the library on Tuesday. There is always the option to check out a certain book when that person is done reading it. We also took the syllabus/expectations quiz.

  • 6th ELA: Today we entered our names into the book raffle. We also went over independent reading information, book projects, and how to check out novels from my class library. Tomorrow we will have our book raffle! Good luck :) Please don't forget to bring your spiral notebooks tomorrow.

  • 6th ELA: Today we were able to preview some books available for checkout from our classroom library. Be sure to hang on to that book preview sheet.

  • Peer Leadership: We took a quick personality quiz to determine our working styles. We will learn about other groups' learning styles so we can work together more effectively.

  • 6th ELA: We had an awesome day working in groups on the ELA "Escape Room"! This allowed us to learn more about classroom expectations and procedures. Please read over the syllabus tonight and bring questions you may have tomorrow. We may be having a quiz on the syllabus at some point (hint hint... this FRIDAY).

What an AWESOME first day. It was so great to meet all of you and I am so excited for a fantastic year!

  • 6th ELA: We completed the "All About Me" sheet, made our name tags, and played some fun games to get to know each other. Please don't forget to give the young adult permission slip to your parents for a signature.
