Monday, October 15, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter 12 of Space Case. We also discussed and took notes on the 4 (main) types of conflict.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Revise Schaffer paragraph (due this Friday, 10/19)

  • Peer Leadership: Today we worked with committees. Some groups decided to work on their genius projects if they didn't have a group project currently in the works.

Homework: Blog post #1 due this Friday, 10/19. We will go over blogs tomorrow!


PL UPDATE (PERIOD 8): The "positive/negative leadership behavior" activity will not be graded as late for those turning it in today or tomorrow. Since we were caught up in school projects, I did not remind period 8 to turn it in. Please turn in the assignment for full credit.


Friday, October 12, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we finished our plot activity and read chapter 11 of Space Case. Please revise your Schaffer paragraphs!

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Revise Schaffer paragraph (due next Friday)

  • Peer Leadership: Today we worked on our websites and began researching. We had a game day in period 8 since so many students were at the color run. If you didn't finish the genius project proposal or didn't get a parent signature, please bring it Monday.

  • 6th ELA: Today we watched a few Pixar shorts and completed some plot diagrams based on what we watched.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Revise Schaffer paragraph.

  • Peer Leadership: Today we worked on our websites and working on the proposals.

Homework: Genius Project Proposal due Friday, 10/12.


Wednesday, October 10, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter 10 of Space Case. We also reviewed what a good Schaffer paragraph looks like. Make sure you work on revising those paragraphs. Come to tutorial at lunch!

Homework: Read for 30 minutes. Revise Schaffer paragraph.

  • Peer Leadership: Today we worked on setting up our websites and working on the proposals.

Tuesday, October 9, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter 9 of Space Case. We also continued with our list writing activity.

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: Today we worked on our project proposals for the genius project. Be sure you are putting 100% effort into this! Also, this is supposed to be a fun choice project... so have fun and don't stress!

Monday, October 8, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter 8 of Space Case. We also started a creative writing project in which we compose a piece of writing based off lists we create. Excited to see what you all come up with!

Homework: Read for 30 minutes.

  • Peer Leadership: Today we were introduced to the Genius Project. We went over the packet provided which covered types of projects and requirements. Think about potential projects tonight and bring any questions you may have to class tomorrow. If you didn't finish the activity completed in class on Friday, please complete it and turn it in.

  • 6th ELA: Today we typed our final draft of the Schaffer paragraph. This was due at the end of class.

  • 6th ELA: Today we created a strong claim and wrote our rough draft. If you did not finish, you'll need to complete the rough draft over the weekend. We will be typing the final draft and submitting it for a grade at the end of class on Monday. Have a great weekend!

  • 6th ELA: Today we annotated the second article about Mars colonization and took some notes on the video we watched. We also created a chart listing the benefits and risks of colonizing Mars. We will write the rough draft in class tomorrow.

  • Peer Leadership: We graded ourselves and our group members for committee work thus far.

Wednesday, September 26, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we discussed book talks, our next AR test, and independent reading information. This was all super important information that you must get if you were absent! We also started reading/annotating our articles for our writing assessment. We will continue the process tomorrow. Special shoutout to those of you who came in at lunch to retake your AR test; this shows determination, resilience, and growth mindset! You rock!

  • Peer Leadership: We graded ourselves as committees and continued working on projects.

Tuesday, September 25, 2018:

  • 6th ELA: Today we finished our Schaffer paragraph group work. If you struggled working with others, please know that collaboration is very important in my class (and in life), so you will need to be able to work with others! We also played a fun review game to demonstrate our understanding of structure.

A few reminders:

1. All late work for the 6-week grading period is due tomorrow. I will be updating grades at the end of this week/over the weekend.

2. Retake for AR test #1 tomorrow at lunch!

  • 6th ELA: Today we continued working in our groups on the Schaffer paragraph. We will finish these up Monday. We also took our first AR test. A couple of reminders:

1. You may retake this test once if you did not do well. The retake will be held next Wednesday, 9/26 at lunch.

2. If you took more than one, I will put your highest score in the grade for AR test 1.

  • 6th ELA: Today we we added a resource on plot elements to our ELA notebooks. We also read chapter 6 of Space Case and worked on a graphic organizer.

  • 6th ELA: Today we finished reading chapter 5 of Space Case. We also wrote an academic summary on chapter 5. If you weren't able to finish, come to tutorial tomorrow at lunch to finish up.

  • Peer Leadership: We did finished our activity about positive and negative behaviors. Now we are able to get together with our committees, create group norms, and hopefully eliminate some of the negative collaborative behaviors! Thanks for your reflections today.

  • 6th ELA: Today we learned about how to write a proper academic summary and read part of chapter 5 of Space Case. Don't forget, September 26th is the last day to turn in late work from this grading period.

  • 6th ELA: It was a busy day today! We had a binder check, planner quiz, read chapter 4 of Space Case, filled out part of our character chart, and checked our grades on Aeries. For the binder check: remember, you can get full credit on that if you show me that you've corrected/got the materials that were either not there or done incorrectly.

  • 6th ELA: We had our planner quiz today. We learned more about text connections and added that resource in our ELA notebooks. We also met with our reading partners for discussions. Please make sure you're writing in your planner correctly EVERY day so you are earning 100% on these quizzes.

  • 6th ELA: Today we read chapter one of Space Case. We also started our thinking frame for chapter one.

In addition, you also found out your reading level. Remember, GE stands for "Grade Equivalency" (ex: 6.0 is a 6th grade reading level). ZPD is the "Zone of Proximal Development". This is the range you should be ideally be reading within. Check the "AR Book Level" at www.ARbookfind.com

  • 6th ELA: Today we were introduced to the Schaffer paragraph and we practiced writing one. I know this may seem hard right now, but practice makes perfect! ***PLEASE CHECK YOUR GRADES! Some of you are missing assignments and it is significantly affecting your grade.

  • Peer Leadership: We completed the post-brainstorm activity. We also played listen up! Talk about a serious battle of which class can work best as a team. ***PLEASE CHECK YOUR GRADES! So many of you are turning in assignments without names :(

  • 6th ELA: Today we set up our ELA spiral notebooks. We also learned about three different types of text. If you weren't able to get the notes, come see my spiral notebook. We also went over the syllabus/expectations quiz. If you would like to earn full points, write down the correct answer in a complete sentence for each question you got wrong.
