As a parent of a developing musician, you will need to take an active role in assisting your child with this endeavor.
Please:
1. ENCOURAGE PRACTICE! - Parents can ask your student about their practice reflection homework. This is a one question Google Classroom assignment turned in once a month.
2. Practice should take place at least one day a week for at least 15 minutes per session. Six practice sessions per month is a great goal. Reward your student’s efforts, and praise their improvements.
3. Help create a consistent time and place practice can be done without interruptions. Don’t use practice as a punishment.
4. Help your child practice by asking them: “What's the goal for your session?" Students should play short sections slowly with a goal in mind during practice. Practice is not playing through pieces you already know.
5. Your child will need a music stand to assure good posture while playing.
6. Check your child’s scores online in Aeries. Grades are based on 60% Class and Concert Participation, and 40% on written and playing assignments.
Other things:
-Consider seeing a concert featuring your child’s instrument.
-If your student is showing dedication with their music study consider purchasing an instrument before they reach High School
Instrument care guide:
Always store the instrument in the case when not in use.
When it rains, use a plastic bag around the case when transporting the instrument to protect it.
Check your student’s music book for further instrument care instructions.
