Welcome to Learning Habitat 8!
Come along and meet the Learning Coaches who will be guiding your Childs learning through play whilst incorporating deliberate acts of teaching.
Fatma has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland and is currently writing a thesis for her Masters of Education on Transition to School. Fatma is a Learning Coach in LH8 and a transition to school liaison at Ormiston Primary School. She is an experienced teacher with 10 years of work experience at Primary and Intermediate school level. Teaching and learning has always been a great passion for Fatma since her childhood. She enjoys working alongside the learners and their parents, and is particularly passionate about transition to school process. She is committed to continuing her teaching and learning journey, and is absolutely dedicated to making transition to school process for all learners successful and smooth as possible. Outside of school Fatma, enjoys spending time with her family and friends, writing and travelling to explore different cultures.
Abby completed a Bachelor of Education from the University of Auckland in 2014 and is one of the Foundation Learning Coaches that began at Ormiston Primary in 2015. She and Cathy will be jointly responsible for the Frater-Banks Hapu. Abby will be our learners on alternate Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while Cathy will be with our learners on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.
Throughout her life Abby has had a range of experiences working with children of all ages and abilities. She is passionate about developing a Play Based Learning Environment that provides our youngest learners with the time and space to make connections, develop their confidence and explore their own ideas and understandings. Abby enjoys sharing her knowledge and ideas with others and has presented at uLearn and EduCamp. She is committed to continuing her learning journey and attends Professional Development regularly. In her spare time Abby enjoys spending time with her Husband and Daughter, travelling and developing her cake decorating passion.
Cathy joined Ormiston Primary in 2018. She and Abby will be jointly responsible for the Frater-Banks Hapu. Cathy will be with our learners on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, while Abby will be our learners on alternate Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
In recent years Cathy has been working as an Art Teacher and enjoys providing unique experiences encouraging children’s imagination and creativity. She completed her Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Teaching at Auckland University and has a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Geography and Social Anthropology from Waikato University. Previously, Cathy worked in Marketing and Customer Service. In between careers Cathy spent precious time at home raising her two daughters. Cathy and her family have lived in many parts of New Zealand and are now happily settled in their home beside the Hauraki Gulf. Cathy loves spending time with family and friends. She enjoys art and art history, travel and the outdoors.
Hannah has joined Ormiston Primary School in 2018 after completing a Master of Teaching at the University of Auckland.
Once upon a time Hannah studied Anthropology (Archaeology), Ancient History and Spanish at an undergraduate level, and Anthropology at a post graduate level, in which she has a Masters degree in Biological Anthropology. Before returning to study teaching, Hannah worked for 8 years in a medical laboratory, carrying out compatibility testing for transplant patients and donors.
Hannah is looking forward to working alongside learners, helping them to achieve their potential. Hannah believes that curiosity and exploration are an essential part of learning, as well as developing the skills to collaborate with others.
In her personal life, Hannah is married with two lovely daughters, a fluffy cat and a boisterous, sock-eating dog. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, walking, gardening, painting, book club, and the odd foray into DIY.
